Superphonics Tutoring advertised their tutoring program through our radio station (KERN AM/FM).  My wife - who in my opinion - couldn't make heads or tales of anything academic or intellectual received about 10 sessions with the new Superphonics program.  I'm in absolute shock.  She not only learned basics I'd forgotten years ago, but she now comes home and challenges me with high level literacy and I.Q. games. 

In recording sessions for Superphonics advertisements, I meet and talk with parents who attest to the improvement their children have gotten from the program. Superphonics Director asks them not to prepare what they will say, but to just say whatever they have to say.  This is almost unheard but works quite well.  They are genuinely thrilled parents. 

If I owned this station, Superphonics would advertise daily, at no charge, for all time.  This is the program to eliminate illiteracy on a national scale - not only in the area of reading, but in overall intelligence.

Bilingual Child Can't Read Glendale CA My son was going to be held back in the first grade because he could not learn the English alphabet sounds and he could not read. We have two languages, Armenian and English and my son got so confused and was struggling and he was frustrated. Then I found Tracy Sherwood and she tutored him for 2 1/2 months near the end of the school year. We only had two months, but Tracy guaranteed he would not be held back in first-grade and that he would even excel if I would practice her techniques with him after school.  I usually sat with them for tutoring and then practiced her techniques almost every day. Then he was reading and sounding out words and getting 100% on his spelling test every week.  He was 80% ready to read books without my help in only two months. Then he went to summer school and his teacher said that he is her best student. He was also on the honor roll. He’s doing book reports on his own with his own words. But he gets bored because he knows most of the second-grade work so when he is in second-grade, she will give him third-grade work also so he will not get bored. His teacher  says the only problem he has is that when she asks the class a question, he answers it too fast because he knows all the answers and other children do not get to answer.  When she talked to him about this he tells the teacher "But they’re just thinking, thinking, thinking!" But he’s trying.

Before he started tutoring with Tracy he was going to be held back. Tracy promised he would not and he could excel. And he has! I changed my son's whole future in two and one half months when I found Tracy.

Every night it was the same routine. My son fought us, complaining adamantly about doing his homework.  The homework ritual consisted of tears, frustration and comments like, "I hate school!"  IT was no wonder that we were both frustrated, and his attitude toward schools was becoming more negative by the day.  I did everything I knew how to help him to no avail.  I begged teachers for help but did not receive any useful tools that I could use.  I felt completely helpless as did he.  I knew that if my child was to be successful in school I needed to take action.

After talking to several tutoring centers, I chose Superphonics.  Careful to make this a positive experience for my son, I told him cheerfully of our (testing) appointment with Tracy. I was shocked and devastated when he began to weep and said, "I'm not stupid!"  I felt horrible and thought of canceling our appointment.  But as I thought about it, I realized that his difficulties in reading and comprehension were resulting in a lowered self esteem, and a negative attitude toward school that had the potential to effect him throughout his educational years, as well as, his future.  Needless to say, we kept the appointment.

On Monday, we met with Tracy and learned more about the program, but decided to think it over before committing to starting the Breakthrough Sessions (expensive).  The following Monday, my son came to me happily and said, "Mommy today's Monday, we get to go to tutoring today, right? Well, I was dumb founded! Where was the boy who cried, refused to go, and who hated anything to do with education? I was so excited I called immediately and scheduled his first Breakthrough Session.

After just one session, (in which I sat in to watch), there was a dramatic increase in my son's confidence level.  And his desire to learn soured.  He found the Superphonics Slap Card Game exciting as it accommodated his competitive nature.  He was having fun, and learning.  As the sessions continued, he began to utilize the skills he learned, first with some help, and then on his own.  And when he started to take the initiative to bring home his books for extra help I really knew we were on the right track.

Since being introduced to Superphonics, I have not heard the ear wrenching phrase "I hate school!"  Instead, we have a child that works extremely hard, who wants to learn, who likes school, and who is willing to do any task if it will help him to succeed.  He now knows that he can succeed and he has the tools he needs to do so.

This Breakthrough has taken only 12 sessions to complete. When he began, he struggled with his 4th grade level reading materials.  12 sessions later, he read a 6th grade level book and scored an A on the comprehension test.  He's more comfortable in the dictionary than the average junior high student!

I cannot stress the tremendous difference this program has made in our lives.  I am no longer a frustrated and helpless parent, and my child is confident and gain enjoys learning.  His whole attitude has changed.  I will never forget the look in my son's eyes one day during a tutoring session in which he whispered an endearing, "I love you Mom."
It touched my heart, and I knew then that this program was the best gift we could have given him - ever.  The gift of success.

A 14-year-old's Frustration and tears
My daughter had difficulties in most subjects and received fair to poor grades.  When asked what is the problem, she stated, 'There are just too many things I don't get". 16 and can't read - Level-One Breakthrough
When my son Sammy was tested personally by Tracy Sherwood, I sat there in awe watching her with him. She said she had tutored since 1975 so I expected her to know what she was doing. My estimate was that hopefully she could get Sammy unstuck and able to learn something (anything at all) within a few months or so. That would be pretty quick considering no one else had made any progress with him, ever.

Tracy had me sit in on the sessions so I could gain some tips. It was so inspiring but I knew I would never be able to communicate with him the way she did no matter how much I learned. In three one hour sessions, Sammy had made four major breakthroughs in learning. One was in sounding out words, one was getting a grip on how to 'learn' to study spelling words (and he went from straight Fs in school to a B on his first test and an A on his second), the third was in tapping into his own intellegence and just sort of waking up. The fourth was in concentration, which has always been his weakest area. These breakthroughs were made in only four hours and he liked his sessions with her very much. 

I'm very anxious to get on with the next Breakthrough Program with Tracy. She is worth waiting for and paying for.

Phonics Confusion Remedied During Testing Session 1st-grader

Superphonics Tutoring helped my child Deanna Anderson from the very first testing session, when she was finally able to sound out words she was never able to read before.  She now is able to read books cover to cover.  I have seen so very much progress from my child's tutoring that I truly recommend it to any one who's children are having a hard time with reading.  I have to thank it all to the best program we have and this is Superphonics.

Phonics and Comprehension

I would like to let you know how proud I am to see the improvement my daughter Shelli and son Ryan are making.  Shelli is reading so much better.  It's rather fun watching her sound out words.  I must admit I was a little concerned at first.  I wasn't sure how this method of tutoring was going to help because it looked too simple and promised too much.  But after several weeks, it certainly is paying off.  Her teachers are noticing a big improvement already.  She also is excited about her improvement. 

My son Ryan is finally comprehending what he reads. He was the opposite of Shelli in that he could read the words and spell but couldn't understand what he read. His progress was equally fast.

I'm very pleased Tracy, with the changes in my two kids.  My third child will be starting as soon as Shelli's completed her sessions.  Thanks much, keep up the good work.  Use me as reference any time.

Drug Baby with Severe Learning Disabilities 7-year-old

We adopted Ashley as infant.  She was born a drug baby and has always had  severe learning disabilities. Before Superphonics, we were always sure Ashley would be the slow on in class.  I help in her class two days a week and can see her progress first hand.  She is even sounding out many two-syllable words.  She has come through the initial "I can't", to doing lots of homework and not wanting to leave her Superphonics sessions.  She has come a long way in a very short time.
