It's
the teaching techniques
and
philosophy that makes Superphonics so popular...
Is
there trouble learning and retaining the ABCs or their sounds? Trouble
reading Sight Words that can't be easily sounded out like, though,
who, through etc? Trouble getting the concept of spelling
or retaining spelling words already learned? Trouble teaching large groups
or your own child? You need easier, smaller steps that get really fast
results.
See
what others are saying about Superphonics... From
Memphis TN
Literacy
Program Director:
"I have two separate rooms and the study course students hear
the Superphonics students in the other room laughing and doing the drills.
On breaks the kids come out and talk about it. The Study Course students
ask "What are you doing in there?" After they tell them, the Study
Course students say, "I want to do Superphonics!"
After so much struggle this past year with the traditional
phonics program, my job is so much easier having students teach these
easy concept steps to the others and so on down the line. The decreased
need for one-to one attention is relieving. Many of them couldn't get
the basic concepts before Superphonics even with tutoring, now they get
them from the other kids who just got them.
Eric Everatte
LEAP Program Director
From
an Education Expert:
"For the past few weeks I have been studying and observing the
Superphonics Method at the Superphonics Mini Ranch. What I have noticed
is that it has vital conceptual elements that are not available in any other
program. It is more broken down and has easier steps for both educators
and for children who have difficulty than any other program."
Ace Jones
Curriculum Coordinator/Educator
From a radio station host:
"In recording sessions for Superphonics advertisements, I
meet and talk with parents who attest to the improvement their children
have gotten from the program. Superphonics Director asks them not to prepare
what they will say, but to just say whatever they have to say. This
is almost unheard of, but works fabulously for Superphonics because I
can tell you that these are genuinely thrilled parents."

How is
Superphononics Different?
If we were to take all the traditional phonics programs, including
the fun musical phonics programs and games, and one by one, we were to
watch random children learning to read with each of these programs, we
would see many steps that don't go so smoothly for many parents and educators.
As a result, this is where the child hits barriers as well.
Different children have difficulty in different steps. A
small percent of children are self learning. Others, including many adults,
simply need the sounds and they take off. Yet others, no matter how much
they drill and grill the sounds, their combinations and the phonics rules,
just cannot grasp the ' how tos ' and many of
the concepts. In such a case, even smaller conceptual steps are needed
to get the ideas of the main steps. Superphonics has broken down
these steps into the smallest steps and concepts possible.
Music and games are more inviting, but is the concept of ' how
to ' really there for the struggling or younger child to
master? And what about addressing dyslexia? And how long does it
take? How much help is required? And what if you're trying to teach an
entire class? Learning pace varies from child to child and teachers
are not able to provide 1-to-1 sessions.
Superphonics not only took the most difficult
parts of learning to read (the 'how to' concepts
that aren't taught) and broke them down, it also made them the easiest
steps to learn.
In order to accomplish this, the developer first had to know
where children (and adults) get confused and why. She then had to figure
out how to make the hardest part so simple that it became the easiest
part. It had to work for everyone.
How simple is it? It's so simple that any child who has completed
a step of Superphonics, can teach other 'struggling '
kids the step as though it's a simple game. Because in many ways, it is..
Dyslexic Dads can resolve their Dyslexia while
teaching their own child to read.
Teachers can take the quickest Superphonics students and group
them together with the average and struggling ones. In this way, the teacher
can simply stroll around the room, giving tips as needed and then watch
his or her entire class make excellent progress. It's a refreshing
change from the hopelessness so many teachers feel when kids are left
behind in beginning reading.
By the end of the year, there shouldn't be more than a couple of
students that can't teach another to read with Superphonics. It's amazing
to see.

Because
Sherwood's Phonics Programs take the hardest parts of learning to read
and make them the easiest, frustrated parents glide right through what
previously were barriers without even noticing it. These simple techniques
actually melt away many learning barriers.
Parents don't have to know a thing
about Phonics to help their child and become proficient Phonics Tutors
in just a couple of months or so. They can even take on private
students for $20 to $30 per hour after completing our new Phonics
Tutors Course and after teaching just one child to read.
Many phonics programs promise raving success. But Sherwood
has found the most difficult parts of learning to read or spell and developed
the method to make them the easiest. Superphonics owns the unique
techniques of this amazing discovery and you won't find it anywhere else.
The Superphonics Tutors Course comes with the following video series for
your child or adults students. These videos make it even easier for you
to help because they make they make the lightbulb come on. No phonics
rules here, just effortless lightbulb activation. Let me tell you
about the video series...
PHONICS CAMP Video Series
6-Video Series
This 'no effort' video series teaches the concepts by connecting phonics
naturally to their own speech - and is also for preparing babies and toddlers
for earlier speech with no push. Tracy Sherwood is the source of this
recent discovery and the first to develop the ideal phonics program to
tap into the child's speech to assist in fast progress.
Your
child, as well as struggling adults, can watch other kids and catch on
fast. For example, one video demonstrates the very fastest
and easiest game to learn the sounds and frustrating sight-words.
You don't even need to read the directions that come with the course manual;
just watch the videos to learn how to play. These simplicities set an
unprescedented foundation for beginning and conceptually struggling readers.
The more difficult aspects are presented so simply, at first you
may wonder how such simple steps can do the trick. But watch it all unfold...

Introducing
the Superphonics
Phonics
Tutors Course
for
Parents & Educators
This
parent and educators course is filled with tiny step exercises that you
should apply as you go. The small steps take English literate adults through
easily, whether they know a thing about phonics or not. No more concern
about whether you are saying the sounds correctly or teaching the program
right or if this is the way to teach a particular student of any age.
From 2-years through adult, there is astounding progress awaiting any
student with fair hearing, vision, and who can conceptualize enough to
turn on a TV.
Here is the solution for struggling phonics students - the most effective
therapy for learning disabled students - excellent preparation for preschoolers
- a faster method for beginning readers - the answer for most dyslexic
students or adult sight-readers - pure joy for English as a Second Language
students - the easiest and most effective strategies for classrooms and
small groups. Because
Sherwood's Superphonics programs take the hardest part of learning to
read and make it the easiest, frustrated parents and educators move right
through what previously were barriers without much notice. See Superphonics
Home Program Success Stories at bottom
of
this page .
This
course includes four different cards sets for the Superphonics Slap Card
Game and word list charts to apply as you move through the course. Remember,
you can and should apply the techniques to your child or classroom as
you go.

This
New Breakthrough Course also includes:
Two
training home videos
with Barrier Breathrough Tutoring -
Video
#1 -
See Tracy Sherwood tutor a learning disabled 10 year-old and turn on the
light bulb. This child has very limited intelligence to work with. But
because he tried, he came up four grade levels in reading in about 5 months.
Watch Tracy's approach with his lack of confidence - unbelievable patience
and strategy. See his progress from just one session with the Superphonics
Founder.
Video
#2
- Tracy Sherwood teaches you how to teach the Sounds correctly and how
to play the Superphonics Game. It's as easy to learn as the card game
'GO FISH'! And even easier to teach. It's the fastest progress game
of ALL phonics games to learn the sounds of the ABCs, Sound
Blends, and Sight-Words. Although the instructions are included and easy
to read you can also just watch the demonstration of the Game in the last
half of this training video and begin playing immediately. It can be noisy
and exciting, or calm and quiet.
Training
videos are home videos with Tracy Sherwood and although these two are
not professesional videos, our tutor's decided against professionally
shooting a new video. They said this student had made too much progress
to shoot it again. True story! There's more...
This
course also includes
additional videos of Sherwood's students undergoing the most difficult
aspects of learning beginning phonics. But they never knew it.
Students
also tutor another with Sherwood's popular techniques. Here's more about

Dyslexic children or adults, preschoolers, or any age with learning disabilities.
We highly recommend these videos for kids who resist because they cannot
focus to learn the beginning steps of reading or lack the confidence to
try any more.
No

something that doesn't require much thinking while watching the videos
several times.

| Interview
clips with Eric Everett LEAP Program Director
Memphis Literacy Education and Abilities Program (LEAP)
18 January, 2000
What
is the Literacy, Education and Abilities program?
A literacy program where where children and adults 'learn how to
learn and come to master the dictionary and grammar. ' LEAP is a
free public service for the City of Memphis. Local teachers have
been referring students to me regularly for the last two years.
One particular school in disarray. speaks very highly of our program
and students are referred by the Guidance Counselor.
What
is the most common barrier in delivering Study Technology to your
students?
The lack of ability to read. A lot of the schools don't use phonics
and if they do, many of the teachers don't know how to teach it.
What
difficulties have you run into trying to teach students to read?
We had a phonics program complete with sounds and rules that was
ok, but it still took a long time to get students through it because
it was teaching the sounds and rules of phonics without learning
to use the sounds. They weren't able to apply phonics rules because
they didn't have the basic concept of application behind reading
in the first place. Sounds and rules don't teach the concept and
what to do. I hadn't realized this before. One of my students had
gone through the phonics program but was still having a hard time.
After studying the Superphonics Tutors Course I found out why.
I put her on Superphonics about a week and half ago and she's doing
much better and is able to see what she was missing and knows she
is working with sounds and not symbols and phonics rules.
Traditional
phonics is too high of a level for anyone who hasn't grasped the
concept of sounding out words which is what is learned in these
practice drills. After Superphonics, the phonics rules will really
flow. Traditional phonics should not be the beginning but
I guess no one ever found the real beginning before this.
In
reference to your success story, how do the students on the
Study Course know about the success your Superphonics students are
getting?
I have two separate rooms and the study course students hear the
students in the other room laughing and doing the drills and on
breaks the kids come out and talk about it. The Study Course students
ask :What are you doing in there? After they tell them, the
Study Course students say "I want to do Superphonics!"
Would
you recommend Superphonics to other literacy teachers and groups
in the community?
Oh, most definitely; I would insist on it. It's a lot easier to
teach than the traditional programs and will make the traditional
methods a lot easier after Superphonics..
How
can you teach a group of kids phonics with Superphonics?
Before Superphonics it took about a couple months to learn the basic
sounds. Now I just teach two kids and then have them play
with each other a bit and they in turn play with lower level students.
These kids are now playing the Superphonics Game with the three
new students who get excited because they know they'll be teaching
other students once they know the sounds.
What
have you personally gained from your Superphonics Tutors Course
so far?
Basically, I've relearned phonics all over again. Quickly
too. There's things about phonics I've learned that I didn't realize
before. It also made me better understand how important it
is to have the concept of reading before learning traditional phonics.
If concept of application is missed, it becomes a barrier to learning.
This is because I've been using the traditional phonics so long
and noticed all the troubles I've had getting through that and now
seeing what it's like putting these missing concepts and practice
in place. Things just run a lot smoother and it's made me
realize more - the capabilities of a child or someone whose wanting
to learn how to read. Having these missing phonics steps, I can
now much more easily take on younger students.
Can
you see more room for LEAP expansion by using Superphonics?
Yes. Very much so. It will help my program a lot. Memphis
has a big problem here; about thirty percent suffer illiteracy here
because even teachers don't know phonics. Having a real quick method
for teaching phonics will make it much easier to take on more students
and frees up my time by having the students effectively drill each
other.
The
program has really made my job a lot easier because when you're
trying to teach a student a subject who doesn't know phonics you
end up tutoring a lot of hours. You spend so much more time in one-to-one
sessions. Superphonics will be a much faster route onto the
Study Courses because I don't have to spend as much time teaching
the phonics.
It
took me almost a year to get a woman through her phonics program
in the previous course but she was still having a hard time reading.
She's been going through the Superphonics games and exercises for
about two weeks and has made more progress from Superphonics in
two weeks than a whole year on the other program. She just told
me that she's learning a lot more on this program. I think it will
only take her a couple months to get her through Superphonics. She's
still a little slower than the kids but moving much better than
on the other program.
Once
I read through the Superphonics Tutors Course and saw the video
trailer, I decided I wanted it. And it was everything the trailer
said it would be. End

from a Highly Trained Educator
I have been a professional Educator for almost ten years. I ran
a preschool and then a school for children in Washington D.C. I
also home schooled my four children.
Besides running the school I also taught
and developed curriculum. I have also helped train tutors in D.C.
in the program developed by Dr. Will Tutman. This was an outreach
activity designed to help the community and was quite successful.
During my years in this field I had the opportunity
to examine many phonics programs. I read books, went to workshops
and talked with other teachers etc.
For the past few weeks I have been studying
and observing the Superphonics Method at the Superphonics Mini Ranch.
What I have noticed is that it has vital elements that are not available
in any other programs. It is more broken down and has easier steps
for both educators and for children who have difficulty than
any other program. It has been my experience that due to various
factors (TV, diet, the frantic pace of modern times, etc.) that
more and more children are having difficulty concentrating and learning
to read. With these techniques, a slow student can quickly become
an independent reader.
I'm very impressed. I have studied four
different languages. These techniques would have made my study much
easier. I can definitely see that there have been missing many simple
steps in teaching phonics.
Having dealt with many frustrated, hopeless
students I was pleased to see the attention paid to giving the child
continuous successes and correcting him without making him feel
wrong or stupid. With the very easy steps the overly frustrated
student is able to learn or re-learn to read with ease and satisfaction
and with excellent progress.
I will be tutoring with this method and
expect to have many happy, reading students!

Comprehension and

Tutoring Success Story...
Superphonics
Tutoring advertised their tutoring program through our radio station (KERN
AM/FM). My wife - who in my opinion - couldn't make heads or tales
of anything academic or intellectual received about 10 sessions with the
new Superphonics program. I'm in absolute shock. She not only learned
basics I'd forgotten years ago, but she now comes home and challenges
me with high level literacy and I.Q. games.
In
recording sessions for Superphonics advertisements, I meet and talk with
parents who attest to the improvement their children have gotten from
the program. Superphonics Director asks them not to prepare what they
will say, but to just say whatever they have to say. This is almost
unheard but works quite well. They are genuinely thrilled parents.
If
I owned this station, Superphonics would advertise daily, at no charge,
for all time. This is the program to eliminate illiteracy on a national
scale - not only in the area of reading, but in overall intelligence.
